narcissism is the new wave

Added 4 more new graduation photos of me. My dad added two more pictures of me and my family the day after graduation. They are nice. I also set the sort order for the pictures. I stupidly had it set so that the oldest pictures were displayed first. My gallery is rapidly reaching a new level of coolness.

Chris has a turtle that is now staying with us. His name is Slowpoke. He is currently burrowed in my work clothes.

paranoia

Filed under: general — steve @ 12:33 am

I think I’m getting paranoid. For some reason, I’ve developed this strange low-intensity fear of driving. I just have this stupid feeling that some idiot driver is going to nail me, and I’ll die or be paralyzed. I can just see stupidly large SUV driven by a stupid teenager or a drunk either running a red light or running wildly through an uncontrolled intersection striking me and my poor little truck, crushing me into a thin paste with glasses.

These days seem to go by so quickly. Work finishes at 4:30 and seems like I’m in bed only a couple hours later. I even go to bed later than most people on my crew. I don’t dig this whole bed-by-midnight thing. I guess that was one of the nice things about being at college. I could usually stay up pretty much as late as I wanted. And I did. Sometimes it got bad though. There were a couple of streaks when my average bedtime was between 3:30 and 4 A.M.

Speaking of my college experiences, I’ve begun thinking about my time at SPU, and I plan on writing an in-depth reflection concerning it. Hopefully I will have it done before the fourth. I still am undecided about my whole SPU experience. There was definitely a lot of positives, but towards the end of it there were a lot of strong negatives. It will be good for me to consider the whole and reflect on it anyway.

BTW, that’s a pic of Jess and Me at Golden Gardens today. Okay, to bed.

happy birthday to me!

Filed under: general — steve @ 12:53 pm

Well I had my birthday last night. You can see a pictures of it here. Jess just amazed me. Not only was she stunningly beautiful, but she treated me like royalty. It was so great. I was completely surprised by the limo she had waiting for me outside my apartment building. She had told me just a few days earlier that she had looked into it but decided it was too expensive. However, she got a hook up through one of her customers who owns a limo service. Pretty cool huh? We went from my apartment to Kerry Park where we admired the view and flaunted the limo. Then we went to Canlis for dinner. It was a very nice restaurant, and most of the clientele were senior citizens (making me feel really young). The wine list was over fifty pages, but fortunately they had a wine sommelier to help us decide what to get. After enjoying prawns, lobster bisque, house rolls, fine wine, and a delicious steak, we shared a chocolate volcano cake, and I had a scotch sampler (3 scotches). It was an excellent dinner with a beautiful woman. We took a spin around the city in the limo, and then we had to end the night. It was definitely a birthday to remember.

Amen!!!

Speaking of dark beer, this solves a great mystery.

ed tv

Filed under: thoughts — steve @ 8:15 pm

I remembered what my forgotten “profound thought” was. Educational TV strikes me as a double edged sword. On one hand, we have our children watch these shows so they can learn more. On the other hand, there is also a lot of stuff on television that we don’t want children learning about. So my question is how are the children suppose to know from which to learn? On some occasions mommy and daddy are encouraging them to pay attention to the show, so they learn the activity of watching the glowing box and modeling the behavior that is shown by it. Kids can get pretty good at this. So what happens when they turn on the TV and it’s a program showing the depths of human depravity? Do we really expect young children to be able to know the difference between educational programs and non-educational programs? This makes Sesame Street look pretty dangerous, eh?

little steve!

Filed under: photos — steve @ 6:06 pm

I have posted three new pics of me as a little dude. I was pretty cute. My dad has also uploaded a picture of me post-graduation. Finally, I’ve uploaded a caricature of me. I have a few more photos I will be uploading later, and I think my dad has a bunch too (hint hint). I still plan on doing that video tonight, but I might wait depending on whether my roomie gets some furniture today. Pretty much the only rooms that are totally set up are the bathroom and my room.

Buying tip of the day: Costco has a sweet deal right now where you can get Spiderman and As Good as It Gets for $20.

da weekend

Filed under: general — steve @ 4:57 pm

Now for a real entry. While I was painting a couple of days ago, I had a rather profound thought. However, I have now forgotten it.

Last night, somebody screwed up at Apple and displayed the specs for the new G5s that were suppposed to be unveiled on my birthday. Needless to say they may finally put Apple at the bleeding edge of technology again. Here is the leaked info.

I just realized there is a bunch of stuff I gotta do. I’ll have more stuff tomorrow.

metal rules

Filed under: music — steve @ 2:47 pm

I went to a pretty kickin’ metal show last night. I saw The Agony Scene, Extol, and Demonhunter. For the sake of posterity I’ll do a quick run down of each.

The Agony Scene probably gave the best show over all I think. The lead singer has an oversized head, which made him rather funny looking. He also had white make up on and black eyeliner. His eyes constantly danced around when he screamed/sang too, and when he screamed/sang his lower jaw would stay still and the rest of his head would move up and down. All of these factors gave him a rather creepy stage presence. Anyway, the music was pretty good. The screaming was a little high pitched for me, but it was great to hear their speed/scream metal live. I had fun.

Extol was the band I really wanted to see. Unfortunately, they played about 3 songs I recognized. They have a brand new album, so they were playing mostly off of that I think. Anyway, it was really cool to finally see a metal band with long hair. I enjoyed their show a lot. What’s cool is they’re playing again at a place which is only a 10 min walk from my new apartment. :)

Demon Hunter had the headlining act, and I was rather disappointed. One reason, which wasn’t their fault at all, was that they were poorly micced. The sound techies at Club Impact just don’t know what they’re doing. They’ve had years of practice and scores of shows, and it still seems that just about every show I see there something goes wrong or somebody is horribly micced. Another reason why Demon Hunter wasn’t that great was that it was their “first show ever” (but after reading their website, you’d think they would have done a lot of live shows). They probably could have been a lot tighter, and their showmanship could have used some improvements (like the band actually moving around some). Anyway, it was still good to see them.

I’ll check back in later.

lovely irony

Filed under: thoughts — steve @ 5:08 pm

Here’s some irony for you. SUVs with evironmental bumperstickers. Case in point. I was driving around town, as I am wont to do, and I saw this SUV with this bumper sticker: Pavement is forever. Okay, first point, no it’s not. Roads deteriorate too much as it is. Pavement needs to be more forever. Also, what do cars drive on? They drive on pavement…hmmm, if it wasn’t for pavement you wouldn’t have that fancy SUV, now would you? Finally, I find it funny that a gas-guzzling SUV owner has a sticker such as this. Shouldn’t the owner be driving an EV1 or something?

I get internet at my place in 6 days. Yay!!!

checking in

Filed under: general — steve @ 12:22 pm

I’m finally moved in to my new place, meaning I’m not hauling any more heavy objects up three flights of stairs. However, I still have a lot of unpacking to do and stuff like that. I also still have no internet except when I’m on campus doing my job. Hopefully I’ll have internet by the end of the week. It would be great to have that all hooked up. I plan on having a cool little video of my new apartment and the surrounding neighborhood.

Graduation was great, and, Kyle, I didn’t trip. :) I still feel like I’ve been too busy for it to really sink in. I’m graduated and several of my friends are gone, but I haven’t been able to stop and take that in.

Hopefully I’ll get another post in sometime later this week.
